New growth should pay for itself and not be subsidized by current taxpayers.
New growth should not degrade the rural and historic character of the county or degrade our historic and natural resources.
Fiscal responsibility
James City County has maintained a triple AAA bond rating since 2015, and we are the smallest county in the country to achieve that rating.
Despite a 10% drop in county revenue during COVID, we achieved budget surpluses of over $15 million a year for three consecutive years (FY21 – FY 23).
Strict spending discipline and judicious use of Federal ARPA money helped us make it through this crisis in good shape.
A diversified economy
We need to diversify our economy to reduce our over reliance on low wage tourism industry jobs.
